Miami Songwriter & Videographer Release Women Empowerment Anthem and Video on Election Day

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

“Florida Recording Artist, Alexa Lash, and Miami Videographer, Ashlyn McKibben, Release Emotive Content Inspired by Women, for Women, and with Women”

Miami, FL – November 5 – In synchronicity with an election day grounded in the power of all things female, Alexa Lash releases “Woman,” a song for those who need to rediscover who they are. “Woman” was written on a piano in Juneau, Alaska, while Lash was considering how much her life had changed, and how much the toxicity of some of her relationships were weighing on her ability to love herself.

“I didn’t plan this song,” Lash said of the writing process. “I imagined a wall of my heart being painted on by someone I grew to hate, them hoping it would mean I could never forget them. That their image would be somehow attached to me forever. And I just started singing to these moody chords.”

Lash, the 2024 winner of Miami New Times’ Best Songwriter, is no stranger to heartfelt lyrics and emotional storytelling.

“I wanted the song to lay the scene for a woman who had hardened from abuse. And I wanted her to rise from it.”

The song does just that. The final verse is an acknowledgement:

“I am made of stronger things

No matter how much pain you bring

And like a phoenix, I will rise

From the ashes of these many lives.”

“This verse says so much in four lines,” Lash gushed. “That I have the power in me to get through this, and that like I have done before—and the women before me—I will pick myself up and start anew, with way more confidence. A fiery bird from the ashes of sadness.”

And while the chorus is about forgetting the woman you once were, the final line is a happy conclusion. It ends on the line: “I forgot the woman I was…the woman I am,” giving way to the rediscovery of self after singing the song.

But the song isn’t the only thing driving home the idea of women empowerment, the accompanying music video is a practice in it.

In a collaboration with traveling photographer and videographer, Ashlyn McKibben, the music video for “Woman” is a celebration of female emotion, beauty, and strength. With over 30 women participating from South Florida, including Lash’s mother and elementary school friend, McKibben has crafted a love letter to women in the form of a music video.

“I am really proud of this ,” McKibben wrote as she was editing and wading through videos of women dancing and expressing joy. “I feel like this has been a healing experience.”

“I really needed that,” Lash said of the day at HGAB Studios, where the community content was filmed. “I needed a day surrounded by all that beautiful energy. I can’t wait for everyone to see what we created.”
