“Florida Recording Artist, Alexa Lash, draws inspiration from Alaska in new powerful single.”
Miami, FL – December 25 – In 2022, Miami-based songwriter Alexa Lash performed at the Alaska Folk Festival and fell in love with Juneau. The city was so inspiring that she wrote a song on a subsequent trip to pay homage to a natural phenomenon often seen in Alaska, the Northern Lights, emphasizing a love under a multi-colored sky.
“There’s something so special about Juneau that’s hard to pinpoint,” Lash said. “And I wanted to feel like I left an imprint there, a little piece of my soul in such an unforgettable place.”
And the song does just that with its chorus: “So please don’t, please don’t, please don’t soon forget me…Please don’t, please don’t, please don’t say goodbye just yet.”
While the song seems like it’s about love with a person, it really is about a romance with a personified Juneau.
“I wanted you to feel like you were there with me,” Lash, 2024 winner of Miami New Times’ Best Songwriter said. “That you could feel how hard it would be for me to leave Juneau and its mountains, the comfy nook of a city, where I lived and worked and played for about a month.”
The bridge of the song sums up the writer’s feelings:
“So baby baby just hold me
Keep me warm in that cold breeze
No matter the season
I can’t find a reason
To be anywhere but here with you.”
So while the song is about final moments together with someone you care about deeply, the bridge and chorus work together to emphasize that the singer’s heart remains in the city of Juneau, despite distance and time. That love would always last in the remembering.
Vocals were performed by Alexa Lash. Piano was performed by Gene Paul Gayol. Bass guitar was played by local multi-instrumentalist, Marcel Salas. Drums were performed by Los Angeles-based musician David Goodstein. Belinda Stohner was on violin, along with Jose Pradas on cello (who were also the string players on Lash’s album Heartbreak in Movements. And Ferny Coipel, who has been working with Lash since 2019, produced and engineered the track at Shack North in Hialeah, FL and added bells toward the end of the track.
The song was mastered by Zach Ziskin. And the cover and accompanying art was designed by artist, Jacqueline Lesik.
