Over It? New Miami Writing Duo Releases Your New Anthem for Moving On

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

New Florida-based Writing Duo LoveLogic Asks “What Do You Want”? Hoping What You’ll Want to Do is Sing it Over and Over on Repeat

Miami, FL – September 23 – After a successful and exciting release of Alexa Lash’s song “Fate,” written by Lash (who won Miami New Times’ 2024 Songwriter of the Year) and Miami local Pedro Rubio, the writing pair decided to create more music under the new name LoveLogic. The project name serves as an homage to the pair’s combination of emotional and logical thinking in their approach to songwriting, and so of course, this first release tackles both love and logic simultaneously.

This new release, titled “What Do You Want?” is an anthem for the fed up. The partners who are ready to move on, because they’ve found no logical region to remain in their relationship.

The opening voice messages where you hear Rubio play the emotionally manipulative partner, is setting the stage in just a few lines that the song is responding to this tonal toxicity. Once the messages cease, the song opens: “Cuz you’re changing your mind so often that I can’t keep up. Got a hundred different reasons why you can’t be loved.” This first line is already connecting to anyone who has ever been vague in their emotional involvement in a relationship. A lot of us have been there. You get a message saying we should talk. You talk. But nothing changes.

So the chorus then drives that point home through repetition exemplifying the partner’s frustration: “What do you want? What do you want from me?” Over and over. Because this cycle of emotional abuse is repetitive. And so the song, in this way, is making that clear.

By the time you get to the bridge, it becomes apparent that there isn’t anything either party can do to salvage the relationship, and that the question of “What do you want?” is no longer a question needing an answer to fix anything, but because the speaker wants the male voice to think about what they’re doing, and finally stop calling.

The song ends with an outro of a final voicemail while the chorus fades away, a voicemail that is once again calm, trying to ease the frustrated partner back into forgiveness, which is part of very typical patterns in emotionally abusive relationships. This song isn’t just an anthem, but a story we’ve seen and potentially experienced throughout our lives.

The song’s guitar, both rhythm and lead, and voicemail vocals were performed by Rubio. The main vocals are performed by Lash. Drums and bass are performed by local multi-instrumentalist Marcel Salas. The track was produced and engineered by Ferny Coipel at Shack North in Hialeah, FL.

The EP was mastered by Zach Ziskin. And the cover and accompanying art was designed by Lash with a photo taken by Karina Naumann.

What Do You Want? hits all streaming platforms on Monday, September 23rd, 2024.
